ICC Rankings: India moved up to third position in the ICC ODI rankings
ICC Rankings: The Indian team has suffered a major setback in the latest ICC ODI rankings. Team India has now come to the third position with the loss of one place. At the same time, Pakistan’s team is second and the Australian team is in first place. However, the gap between the top three teams is very less. First-ranked Australia has 118 points, while second-ranked Pakistan has 116 and third-ranked India has 115 points. In such a situation, there will be a reversal of rankings among the top three teams during the World Cup.
This change in the rankings has come after the annual update of the ICC rankings. Earlier the Australian team was in the first position with 113 points. India also had the same number of points, but in calculating the decimals, India was behind and was in second place. Pakistan’s team was in third place with 112 points.
Pakistan has performed well in the ODI series against New Zealand and has improved by three points to reach the second spot. After the victory against New Zealand, the Pakistan team also reached the top for some time. Had this team managed to win the ODI series 5–0, they would have retained the top spot, but Pakistan could not do so and are now in second place.
In the latest ICC rankings, all the series to be held after May 2020 have been included. The weightage of all the series to be held before May 2022 has been kept at 50 percent and the weightage of the series to be held after May 2022 has been kept at 100 percent.
Due to this change in ICC, the importance of two series between Pakistan and England has decreased. Pakistan had to face defeat against England in 2020 by 0-4. This series is no longer included in the rankings. At the same time, in 2021, England defeated Pakistan 3-0. The weightage of this series has also increased to 50 percent. For this reason, Pakistan has overtaken India in the ranking.
India had lost the ODI series against Australia this year by 2-1 at home. It has suffered a loss in ratings. Among other teams, New Zealand is in the fourth position with 104 points, followed by England in the fifth position with 101 points. England’s rating has dropped by 10 points. Afghanistan has made a big jump to eighth, Sri Lanka ninth, and West Indies tenth. South Africa remains sixth and Bangladesh seventh.
