Champions League: Even the presence of Milan’s big fan tennis star Novak Djokovic and members of the 2003 Champions League winning team at the stadium did not raise the level of their game.
Two of Italy’s top clubs AC Milan and Inter Milan were locked in a Champions League semi-final first leg. Inter thrashed seven-time league winners AC Milan 2–0 at the San Siro Stadium. Even the presence of Milan’s big fan tennis star Novak Djokovic and members of the 2003 Champions League winning team at the stadium did not raise the level of their game.
Champions League: Scored Two Goals in Three Minutes
Champions League: Just eight minutes into the game, Inter broke the back of AC Milan’s defense by scoring two goals in three minutes. The first goal came in the eighth minute when Edin Dzeko volleyed in Hakan Calhonoglu’s center cross from the left end.
Three minutes later, a pass from Frederico DeMarcoz was deliberately dropped by Martínez for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who scored the team’s second goal. Calhonoglu had a chance to score a third goal after a while, but his effort went wide of the goal. Inter was also awarded a penalty in the second half, but it was disallowed by the referee after a review on the pitchside monitors.
Champions League: Inter Coach Said Would Like to Continue This Type of Game
The last time the two teams met in the semi-finals of the Champions League was 20 years ago, with AC Milan beating Inter on goal average to reach the final and beating Juventus there to win their sixth title out of seven. Members of the team that won the same title were present on the field to cheer Milan.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi said that we would like to continue playing like this. We know that the team is just one step away from fulfilling the dream that it started dreaming of in August last year. And the second leg of the semi-finals will be held on Tuesday.
