Karnataka batsman Padikkal has earned his maiden call-up to the Indian Test team, replacing the injured KL Rahul for the third Test. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced this decision on Monday, citing Rahul’s ongoing quadriceps injury as the reason for his absence.
Padikkal received the news about his inclusion in the Test squad after Karnataka’s Ranji Trophy match against Tamil Nadu at the Chepauk Stadium. Karnataka secured the first-inning lead, with Padikkal playing a crucial role in the team’s success. The left-handed batsman showcased his red-ball prowess by scoring 151 runs in the first inning and contributing 36 runs in the second.
Following his selection in the Test team, Padikkal expressed pride in his achievements, especially considering he had battled a serious illness during the 2022–23 season. Reflecting on his journey, Padikkal shared his sentiments in an interview with TOI.
