Sri Lanka’s star bowler gave away sixes from the opposition team:In the decider of the three-match ODI series between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka won by 8 wickets using the Duckworth–Lewis method, taking the series 2–0. Despite the match getting delayed due to rain, leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga performed brilliantly and took 7 wickets for just 19 runs on his return to the field after a gap of five months.
Zimbabwe team won the toss and decided to bat first against Sri Lanka. The partnership between Gumbura and Katano reached 43 runs, but once Hasaranga came into the attack Zimbabwe struggled to maintain control. Hasaranga’s excellent bowling restricted Zimbabwe to a total score of 96 runs. His spell of 7 wickets for 19 runs in 5.5 overs played a crucial role in Zimbabwe’s collapse. Sri Lankan bowlers Dilshan Madushanka, Mahesh Tikshana and Zenith Liyanage also contributed by taking one wicket each.
Chasing the revised target of 97, Sri Lanka suffered an early blow as Avishka Fernando was out after scoring just 1 run. However, captain Kusal Mendis made a vital partnership of 72 runs with Shevon Daniel, giving Sri Lanka a comfortable victory. Mendis contributed an unbeaten 66 runs to help Sri Lanka win by 2 wickets in 16.4 overs.
With this victory, Sri Lanka’s dominance in the ODI series against Zimbabwe has been strengthened. Now the focus is on the upcoming 3-match T20 series, which is scheduled to start from January 14.
