IIn this match played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Afghanistan team won the toss and chose batting and could score only 272 runs in 50 overs. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi played an inning of 80 runs and Azmatullah Omarzai played an inning of 62 runs.
In reply, India achieved the target by losing two wickets in 35 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma played an inning of 131 runs in 84 balls with the help of 16 fours and five sixes. Whereas, Virat Kohli remained unbeaten after scoring 55 runs in 56 balls. He gave victory to Team India by hitting a four on the last ball of the 35th over.
This was the 68th half-century of Virat’s ODI career. At the same time, this was his second consecutive half-century. Virat had scored 85 runs in the last match against Australia. India’s next match is now against Pakistan in Ahmedabad on 14 October.
Rohit Sharma scored a century
Team India captain Rohit Sharma scored a century in 63 balls and also led his team to victory. He became the fastest century scorer for India in the ODI World Cup. In this matter, Rohit broke the record of great captain Kapil Dev. Kapil Dev had scored a century in just 72 balls against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup and now he broke this record with Rohit.
This was the 31st century of Rohit’s ODI career. Also, he has become the batsman who has scored the most centuries in the World Cup. He has seven centuries to his name in this tournament. In this matter he left behind Sachin Tendulkar (six centuries).
