Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar-Rourkela, Odisha capital city is all set to host an international football event after the huge success of FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023. As the countdown begins for the upcoming Intercontinental Cup 2023 to be held in Bhubaneswar from June 9 to 18,
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik bought the first tickets for the big event to be held at the Kalinga Stadium. Chhetri, captain of the Indian football team, handed over the first ticket to Shaji Prabhakaran, general secretary of the All India Football Federation and the CM in Orissa. Odisha state to host international men’s football tournament for the first time
Odisha will host an international men’s football tournament for the first time. The CM urged large numbers of football fans to throng the stadium to cheer for the Blue Tigers (India). The state is also emerging as a major center for football. It hosted FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022, SAFF U-20 Championship 2022, ISL season, IWL 2021-22, and Odisha Women’s League thus giving a huge boost to the development of the football ecosystem in the state. Interest in football continues to grow in the state as state-partner Odisha FC, based out of the Kalinga Sports Complex, recently brought home the prestigious Super Cup. Odisha is one state where two teams are competing in (IWL).
The Intercontinental Cup is scheduled to be held from June 9, the match will be with Vanuatu of Lebanon while the home team India will have its first match with the Mongolia team.
